“I’m not like a regular Aunt, I’m a cool Aunt'“
Hey, pleasure seekers! Firstly, I hope the Mean Girls reference gave you a giggle. I wanted to take a moment to share something personal with you. I have the incredible privilege of being known as "Aunty Kaity" not only by my own nieces and nephews but also by their friends and the children of my own wonderful friends. It's a role I cherish deeply and it has allowed me to be a trusted confidant for these young hearts when it comes to questions about relationships and sex.
But it's not just within my family circle. I also have the joy of working closely with an incredible 18-year-old young woman and our bond has grown stronger over time. These connections have opened my eyes to the gaps in our school education system, particularly in religious schools where the emphasis on abstinence until marriage is often the prevailing approach.
I strongly believe that we are missing out on a significant opportunity to educate young people about self-exploration and the importance of understanding their bodies. By promoting healthy discussions about masturbation and self-confidence, we can empower young individuals to make informed choices and understand the importance of consent.
Furthermore, I feel that our schools often fall short when it comes to providing comprehensive knowledge about fertility and reproductive health. While the risks of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections are highlighted, there is a lack of emphasis on the challenges some women may face in conceiving. We need to bridge this gap and ensure that young women receive a holistic understanding of their bodies and reproductive capabilities.
These concerns fuel my passion for the podcast I'm working on launching in the coming months. I am driven to provide a platform that addresses these educational gaps and encourages open conversations about sex and relationships.
On that note, I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode of ‘Parental Guidance’ on Channel 9. It's essential to stay informed about the current state of sex education in Australia and its impact on young children. I anticipate that it will shed light on some alarming facts (I'll be sure to share a recap and my thoughts on my social media stories afterward).
Being an advocate for teaching and educating parents on how to have age-appropriate conversations with their children is also a crucial aspect of my mission. Creating a safe space for dialogue is key to nurturing healthy relationships and fostering understanding.
Thank you for joining me on this journey of knowledge and empowerment. Together, let's challenge the status quo and pave the way for a more inclusive, informed and open approach to sex education. Stay tuned for more updates and insights!
Sending love and light,
‘Aunty Kaity’ 💕
